The European Union Training Mission Somalia (EUTM) began on April 7, 2010. The purpose of the mission is to contribute to the stabilization of the situation in Somalia in accordance with the Djibouti Agreement from 2008.

The Swedish Armed Forces participate with officers in a training team to train Somali security forces. EUTM has so far trained about 2,500 Somalis in four rounds and is currently in the fifth round. EUTM-S is located within the international camp at Mogadishu airport. The mission also has smaller supporting elements in Nairobi and Brussels. Currently, the personnel strength is approximately 180 officers, soldiers, and civilians. Sweden contributes about nine people. The Life Guards are the responsible unit for EUTM-S 2026.

Main Responsibilities

  • Provide mission assessment.
  • Producing and maintaining the mission assessment plan to monitor mission progress against the mission’s mandate.
  • Reports directly to and provides support to J5/7 Head.
  • Provides support to J5/7 Deputy.
  • Contributes to the higher level planning process.
  • Contributes to the development of planning documents.
  • Contributes to the preparation of the EUTM-S Mission Order.
  • Contributes to the maintaining and updating of contingency plans.
  • Coordinates the EUTM-S SOP updates.
  • Responsible for keeping EUTM-S Power Point Master Briefing updated.
  • Provide support to J5/7 branch activities and responsibilities.
  • Takes over the tasks assigned to other vacant posts in the Branch, as directed by J5/7 Head.
  • To provide support to MFCdr/COS when required, in order to meet Mission specific deficiencies.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Approved professional or reserve officer examination
  • Level: OF 3
  • Driving license B
  • Very good knowledge of English in speech and writing
  • Experience of administrative tasks
  • Approved medical examination prior to deployment
  • Approved FmFysS results

Personal Qualities

You have a good ability to collaborate and enjoy making social contacts at work. You like to work operationally and are driven to solve arising tasks. You can easily adapt to new situations, have patience, and are stress-resistant.

Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.

DESIRABLE

  • Previous experience of service in international military missions
  • Experience of working in a staff

Individual salary setting, other compensation according to the IMI agreement.

Mission training: V608-611

Rotation: 12 months, from March 2026 to March 2027

The Life Guards is one of the Swedish Armed Forces' largest units with roots dating back to 1521. We train tomorrow's soldiers, as well as military police and personnel who will carry out international missions. We guard the royal palaces, we have security and ground combat units. We are also responsible for preserving and developing the Swedish military music tradition. Our headquarters is in Kungsängen outside Stockholm, but we are also located in Sollentuna, central Stockholm, Uppsala, Gothenburg, and Karlskrona.
